Perhaps one of the most conveniently located areas in Northeast Florida, Baymeadows truly has something for everyone. Very convenient to the beaches, downtown, and the best shopping and entertainment Jacksonville has to offer. Prior to the 1970's, Baymeadows was as rural as can be, but has been consistently developed since. Home to perhaps the highest concentration of apartment complexes in the area, many of which have been converted into condominiums with the recent market boom. Many new home communities have been developed since the early 1990s in the area due to its prime location, and new condominiums have sprung up all over the place as well in recent years. Home prices in the Baymeadows area of Jacksonville are about average in Jacksonville in general, more expensive than west of the river, but more affordable than the beaches. Baymeadows is also home to the St. Johns Town Center mall, a new outdoor upscale shopping mall, as well as The Avenues Shopping Mall. As far as education goes, residents enjoy newer top rated Twin Lakes Elementary & Middle Schools, and a new high school around the corner from them slated to open in the near future.
